If we were to look at the show ‘Let’s Make a Deal’ from a global perspective, we would see that the show was so popular that it was shown in countries all over the world. Comparatively, aren’t our relationship issues being shown on network television and viewed all over the world? The world has watched our political scandals, debates and governmental issues unfold. In fact, countries just watched our 2013 debacle with our government shutdown.

Has our country been force-fed to buy into and accept the greed of crooked politicians as the acceptable behavior? Have we been forced to accept the opinions of the left, right and center? Haven’t we seen enough politicians play let’s make a deal with our children’s future, just to secure a popular vote?

Aren’t some of these individuals the same politicians that you and I only see on Sunday as they campaign traveling from church-to-church asking for your vote during the election season? Many of these officials are the same ones that we elected to represent our communities, but they have failed to pass legislation to secure funding for our districts. Sadly, they couldn’t even come together for the good of our country to pass a timely legislation to keep our government from shutting down. They’ve been influenced, hoodwinked and bamboozled by money, power, and greed. They’ve made one too many DEALS. We know that we must continue to pray for them, but hope that they don’t prey on us.

There have been deals, movements and debates held all across this country. Some started at the local level, but have gone all the way to the Supreme Court level. These movements were meant to empower, unite and be the voice of change for some disadvantaged group. But I raise the question: Have these movements really done the good that they were meant to? Have they only opened the door for the next big policy change? Or, have we only turned back the clock to the days of Sodom and Gomorrah?  We must be reminded that every CHOICE that we make may have an immediate or delayed CONSEQUENCE.

Our freedom of choice has left us morally bankrupt and has affected the fabric that this country was built on. We have become hypocrites as a country; we promote in “God We Trust” on the mint, but yet don’t live up to the WORD of God, or obey His commandments. We pick and choose what we want to accept. Hasn’t our economy seen its share of highs and lows as a result of our bad choices? Haven’t we seen enough corporate greed on Wall Street and with big banks? Didn’t we just crawl out of a recession? Not to mention, the way we do business has been changed forever.

We have seen technology play a significant role in our relationships. We text one another more than we talk to each other. Our voicemails say, “If you want a faster response, TEXT ME.” It has provided us with benefits of instant gratification, so much so that corporations have used it to replace the human element; all in the effort to save money towards the bottom line. Now our CHOICES have allowed greed in the boardroom with CEOs of failing companies walking away with hundreds of millions of dollars in incentives.

We’ve benefitted so much from technology that we’ve become prisoners to it. Our unemployment numbers are too high and our children’s standardized test scores are too low. Could the reason be that many adults are spending more time on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Match.com, rather than parenting? Now their children are spending more time downloading new applications, playing games and text messaging. Have we allowed technology to replace our family values? Has technology taken over the parenting?

Our culture has seen a shift in music, television and the movies. Gone are the days when sexually explicit words and body parts weren’t acceptable. These days we’ve become so addicted to good content that we host watch parties as we promote pornography and shows like The Bachelor, Love & Hip Hop, Scandal, and Preachers of LA, that appear so innocent. Now we are backtracking trying to put a stop to child pornography, human trafficking and reality TV. We argue with our youth about pulling their pants up on to their behinds. Unfortunately, some of our youth have learned the behavior via prison, music videos and reality shows. As adults, we tell the youth that, “We are grown; don’t do what I do.” Then we proudly justify the behavior of Peter Gunz, Olivia Pope and Deitrick Haddon. Many will say, “IT’S JUST A TELEVISION SHOW.”

So, Let’s Make a Deal. Do you want to choose HEAVEN or Hell, The WORD, or the World? Is there a need for morals, values and standards? What will the next 20 years look like? Maybe it should look more like the movies Purge and Hunger Games. Should we just do whatever, accept whatever? Haven’t we made one too many deals that we’ve gotten ourselves into enough trouble? Why should we obey God, or the laws of the land? We’ll just change them anyway, right? The popular quote has been “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing the same way and expecting a different result.”

Could our challenges as a nation stem from the beginning of time when Lucifer was kicked out of heaven? (Isaiah 14:12-15) Now, we want to take a new deal, but we want some of the perks from the old. Have we compromised our values and principles that this country was founded on by God’s plan (The Bible)? Have we allowed the desires of our flesh along with money, power, greed and control to influence our choices regarding the institution of marriage between a man and a woman? Have we taken a bad deal that will cost us later?

My brothers and sisters have we taken a deal with God, or the devil? Have we taken one too many bad deals that have cost us an eternity of debt? Are our relationships, communities and culture suffering as a result of our taking the deal for the popular vote? Have we become arrogant as a nation to where our elected officials think that it is okay to clearly break the law? Wouldn’t our future be so much brighter if we could start looking at the promises of our future and stop living out the challenges of our past? We keep holding on to history instead of making history.

Here’s my question to you, which deal(s) have you taken? When judgment comes would God say, “well done my GOOD and FAITHFUL SERVANT, you have been FAITHFUL over a few things, now I will make you ruler over many.” (Matthew 25:21) Does God know you because you have a relationship with Him? Are you one of His willing workers that disciple throughout the land? Would He know you because you only sit on the pew on Sunday, but Monday – Saturday you do whatever? Better yet, would God want to clone YOU?

I AM grateful that God LOVES us in spite of what we did yesterday and today. I’m so glad that He allowed his Son to die for a wretch like me. I’m so glad that God won’t leave me nor forsake me when people walk away from me, but, when it’s all said and done, I will have to choose to accept Him, or reject Him.

In the words of Saundra Dalton-Smith, “When I feel empty, I have to be reminded that God is all that I need. If there is any emptiness in me, it is not on His part, it is on mine.  Every time I am in His presence, He leaves me better than He found me. What I can’t do in me, I can do through Him. It’s an unusual gift exchange. I give Him what little I have and He gives me all that He is: Almighty God, The Righteous One, The Lamb that takes away the Sin of the World, Redeemer, Deliverer, Lord, King, Jehovah Jireh, The Beginning and the End, The Resurrection, The Light of the World, The Lilly of the Valley and the Bright and Morning Star.”

If you could choose Heaven or Hell, The WORD or the World, which would you choose? I’m choosing HEAVEN over hell, The WORD over the World. Just remember, God sees your heart, but people see your fruit. What fruit are YOU producing from your heart? LET’S MAKE A DEAL.
